Its 2020 and Ayla has just turned 3. She was diagnosed with Epilepsy at 15 months old after having her first seizure at 9 months old. Her first seizure was a big one, 20 minutes long. She spent a lot of time in and out of hospital in the first few months with lots of ambulance trips, which has led to ongoing anxiety and fear of lots of different things which we take for granted. Over the time, we have discovered and become familiar with her three different seizure types, and how to help her for each one. She is an energetic and real go-getter little girl with a cheeky personality who takes her daily meds without a problem. As the medications have reached a level that work for her, her seizures have gone from 3-4 a week down to only one every few months which we are hoping to stop eventually as well. “Ayla” means “halo of light” in Turkish.
